Fronte Nuovo delle Arti
The Fronte Nuovo delle Arti was an Italian artistic movement that was active in Venice, Rome and Milan in the years following WWII (1946 to 1950). It is considered to belong to the post-cubism movement.
The ''Fronte'' was founded in September-October 1946 under the name ''Nuova Secessione Artistica Italiana'' (New Italian Artistic Secession) and published on 1 October 1946 in Venice its manifest, written by Giuseppe Marchiori and subscribed to by Emilio Vedova, Renato Birolli, Ennio Morlotti, Armando Pizzinato, Giuseppe Santomaso, Alberto Viani, Bruno Cassinari, Renato Guttuso, Leoncillo Leonardi and Carlo Levi. Later, on a proposal by Renato Guttuso, the movement took the name ''Fronte Nuovo delle Arti''. It participated to a number of exhibitions in Italy.
The motive of those artists and critics that developed the ideas leading to the ''Fronte'' was to go beyond the positions of the movement Novecento italiano, in the wake of the newest artistic developments at the European level.
After an intense internal debate about abstraction and realism, the ''Fronte'' moved to its dissolution. First Armando Pizzinato and then Renato Guttuso rejected abstractionism and announced their decision to quit the ''Fronte''. Then the Fronte was dissolved on 3 September 1950 in Venice.
